Since
the release of the Fight Night Round 3 demo on the XBox 360 Marketplace, next
generation gamers and fight fans have been eager to get their hands on EA
Sport’s latest instalment of the series. FNR3 certainly looks the part graphic
wise. Detail levels on each fighter look fantastic. While each genuine fighter
has been masterfully rendered to resemble Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins and
Joe Frazier, randomly generated opponents also look great. If your lucky enough
to have a HD television or to have got your hands on a VGA HD cable to allow for
use with a TFT PC monitor the spray of sweat as punches land and camera lighting
effect really show what the hardware in the latest consoles can do. So how do it
play? The first thing you’ll notice is the speed of gameplay...

Boxing
games on the console have been thin on the ground over the last couple
of years. Codemasters, Mike Tyson's Heavyweight Boxing frustrated the hell
out of gamers and while Rocky boasted superb visuals and gameplay it lacked
what fight fans have been crying out for years - a fully engaging boxing
world with dynamic boxer rankings and career management. So when EA Sports
announced their shift of focus from the Knockout Kings button masher to
the more strategy focused Fight Night 2004, it was welcome news
to console owners. The most dramatic change has been to the controls in
the ring. EA Sports have introduced what they call Total Punch Control..

Win
or lose, the name Iron Mike Tyson will always prick up ears. Perhaps that
is why Codemasters picked up the Tyson licence to use him in their new
boxing title. With Iron Mike and fifteen other top heavyweights on board,
Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing certainly looked on paper to be a certain
winner, especially with competition relatively sparse and limited at best...

Having
played earlier versions, I was excited to get the chance to review EA Sports
newest installment of their Knockout Kings series on my new XBox console
monster. Once the soundtrack and movie are through, you get presented four
main modes featured in the game, Play Now, Exhibition, 8 man Tournament
Mode and Career Mode - I'll get back to them later. Let me first focus
on the game in the ring. The moment Richard Steele barked 'Box!' and the
camera zoomed in on the action I knew I was in for a treat... FULL

Computer
boxing sims have been few and far between over the years. Flashes of gold
has been found in the murky depths of fight gaming of the past however,
from the ground breaking polygon based 4D boxing and the Atari ST's World
Championship Boxing Manager to the console hit KO Kings 2001 on the Playstation.
It now appears Title Fight 2001 will become the new star of the
PC boxing ring, boasting perhaps the most accurate boxing simulation ever...FULL

A
boxing game for the PC? Looking at the screenshots on the box I was
certain this was going to be what PC boxing fans were waitng for. Having
been deprived of Knockout Kings when EA Sports pulled the plug on their
PC varient, KO Boxing from Data Becker came just at the right time. Was
it any good? I couldn't wait to find out..... FULL
